Erica Attard, M.Sc.
Energy System Modeller

Dedicated modeller transforming complex data into actionable insights for sustainable energy transitions.
Erica is an Energy System Modeller at ESMIA, where she leverages her expertise in energy modelling, techno-economic analysis, and custom tool development to support evidence-based decision-making. Her work focuses on analyzing large datasets, developing interactive dashboards, and designing optimization tools to assess the impact of energy and climate policies across North America. She excels in transforming complex energy modeling results into accessible formats for diverse stakeholders, from technical experts to policymakers.
Outside of her core responsibilities, Erica is passionate about promoting equity and diversity in engineering. She served as the Director of the Women in Engineering, Science, and Technology Group at the University of Victoria and actively participates in initiatives that support women in STEM fields.
Previously, Erica was a Research Associate at the University of Victoria, where she developed interactive visualization dashboards to communicate energy modelling results and evaluated energy and climate policy options for stakeholders in various Canadian ministries. Her ability to present complex data clearly facilitated collaborative decision-making. She also held a research analyst position at the Government of British Columbia’s Climate Action Secretariat, where she investigated funding challenges for renewable energy projects in local communities and First Nations. Her early career included leading the Toronto Met Formula Racing team, where she successfully managed the design and testing of the team’s first electric vehicle.
Erica holds a Master of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Victoria, supported by the NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship and the British Columbia Graduate Scholarship. She also holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University, where she graduated on the Dean’s List and was awarded the Ryerson University Gold Medal for the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science.
