Koa is a Full Stack Software Developer at ESMIA, where he designs and develops the software platforms that power energy modelling. He specializes in building scalable full stack applications that integrate complex energy datasets, modelling workflows, and interactive visualizations into intuitive software tools. His expertise spans front-end and back-end development, RESTful API design, cloud infrastructure, data processing pipelines in Python, containerization, CI/CD, and software architecture, enabling modellers to efficiently develop, run, and communicate sophisticated energy system analyses.
He is passionate about creating robust software solutions that empower organizations to tackle complex climate challenges and drive measurable environmental impact.
Koa has 8 years of experience as an IT professional where he has worked as a Full Stack Software developer and an IT Support Specialist. During his previous role, he was a Lead Full Stack Developer for the Next-Generation Cities Institute at Concordia University where he led a team of 3-5 software developers working on projects to help government agencies create incentivization policy for retrofitting inefficient buildings. He has also worked as an IT specialist for Concordia University in Montreal, Canada and the Department of Health and Social Services in Alaska, USA.
Koa holds a Master of Applied Sciences in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada where he was a recipient of the SynBioApps fellowship where he created an open-source robot for automating synthetic biology liquid handling. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in the United States.
