Modelling and analysis services for the INGAA Midstream Infrastructure Report

ESMIA contributed to the development of the latest Midstream Infrastructure Report for the INGAA Foundation, a flagship study assessing North America’s future midstream infrastructure needs. The report provides a 25-year outlook on market trends and infrastructure requirements to support strategic planning across the natural gas industry.

As part of the study, ESMIA used its North American energy systems model, NATEM, to evaluate multiple long-term scenarios reflecting current policies, greenhouse gas reduction pathways, and key uncertainties affecting energy demand. The analysis captured regional differences across North America through a detailed representation of 12 U.S. regions and Canada, enabling the assessment of region-specific trends and trade flows. The analysis incorporated oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGL) markets, as well as emerging commodities such as hydrogen and CO2. ESMIA’s integrated representation of carbon capture, utilization and sequestration (CCUS) and export markets was a key component of the assessment.

The modelling provided data-driven insights into future energy production, demand drivers, infrastructure capacity requirements, and investment needs. ESMIA’s work helped evaluate how midstream infrastructure—including pipelines, compression facilities, and gathering systems—may evolve under different market conditions and energy transition pathways. The study supported INGAA Foundation’s objective of understanding how policy and regulatory frameworks can continue to enable the development of infrastructure needed to meet future energy demand.
