Capacity building, training and support

Development of training material and video tutorials for the TIMES–VEDA basic training course

2025-2026

Client: IEA-ETSAP - International Energy Agency

ESMIA delivered a comprehensive modernization of ETSAP’s TIMES–VEDA basic training, one of the core capacity-building activities of the IEA-ETSAP community. The project revised and updated the long-standing 3-day training program, incorporating feedback from Contracting Parties and the wider modelling community. New elements included a prerequisite online session, an automated entry test with Excel proficiency check, and revised agendas for both in-person and online formats. ESMIA developed a full suite of pedagogically structured materials—slide decks, demo models, exercises, and dashboards—together with a series of concise video tutorials aligned with ETSAP branding. To support flexibility, a self-study guide and troubleshooting annex were also produced, ensuring the materials function as both instructor-led and self-paced training. The result is a modern, scalable training package that equips the next generation of energy modellers and enhances global adoption of the TIMES–VEDA framework.
