Partnership for Market Readiness (PMR) Colombia: consolidation of sector GHG emission scenarios and assessment of abatement costs

2020-2022

Client: The Flemish Institute of Technology Research in Belgium for the World Bank, with the Universidad de los Andes (Colombia)

The Government of Colombia intends to update its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the Paris Agreement by late 2020 and this project is expected to feed in technical inputs into the NDC update process. The expert team will support the review, update and consolidation of the GHG baseline scenarios, the GHG mitigation scenarios, and the marginal abatement cost curves. The team propose to offer a user-friendly integrated simulation modelling framework based on LEAP (Long-Range Energy Alternatives Planning System) for this purpose. Recognized worldwide for its expertise in energy system modelling, it provides guidance and prescribed format for gathering data from all ministries for a comprehensive representation of all GHG sources and sinks, consistent with IPCC guidelines.
