Optimal GHG reduction trajectories for Quebec – Horizon 2030 and 2050 (Update 2021)

2017-2021

Client: Quebec Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MELCC) (Canada)

More than an update of the first publication published in 2019, this new study Trajectoires carried out for the Government of Quebec is the result of an in-depth modelling exercise aimed at defining decarbonization pathways for the Quebec economy reaching the carbon neutrality by 2050. Using ESMIA economy-wide GHG optimization NATEM model, it provided all the core results enabling to quantify new optimal trajectories allowing Quebec to reach its ambitious climate goals at the minimum cost. While the original 2019 study was used to develop the 2030 Plan for A Green Economy, this new version will be used in particular to feed the regular updates required by law.
