Development of an open-source optimization energy-electricity model for the City of Toronto: a soft-link between a TEMOA energy system model and the SILVER electricity model

2022-2023

Client: City of Toronto (Canada)

The goal of this project is to i) provide the City with a suite of open-source energy modelling tools to support the implementation of its net-zero strategy accompanied by instruction manuals, tutorial videos, and ii) illustrate the modelling framework capabilities with a specific case study. We use the TEMOA platform to develop a capacity expansion model for the City of Toronto and the SILVER production cost model with higher spatial and temporal (hourly) resolutions to capture the operational aspects of the energy system (e.g., temporal fluctuations of energy supply and demand) and sufficient details to study the alignment of climate policies on meeting interim GHG targets and correct these policies as needed.
