Capacity building to build an optimization model and secure energy future in Ethiopia

Client: International Food Policy Research Institute, Washington D.C. (USA)
The project goal was to provide evidence-based policy recommendations for optimal use of the country’s energy resources to improve electricity access, promote energy security and mitigate climate change. It developed an integrated TIMES energy system demonstration model for training the core energy modelling team in Addis Ababa. The model allows to i) study energy future challenges for Ethiopia including the optimal contribution of renewable energy in the power supply-mix and ii) develop national capacity on energy planning.
