Director of Business Development
About ESMIA Consultants
ESMIA is a leader in 3E (energy-economy-environment) integrated system modelling since 2013. Our foundation is a rigorous scientific approach, guided by sophisticated mathematical models, to support decision-making for complex energy issues. More precisely, we i) develop custom energy system models for clients, ii) provide trainings to clients wishing to develop their own model., iii) offer advisory services on challenging problems using our proprietary models, including energy transition pathways with their impacts on electricity grids, energy tariffs, labor markets and GDP.
We carry out mandates for prestigious organizations on an urban, provincial/state, national, and global scale in North America and internationally. We continuously innovate to meet the evolving needs of decision-makers. Our modelling work has high impact and is used for drafting climate action plans, preparing technological roadmaps, publishing energy outlooks and identifying energy security risks.
About the position
We are currently experiencing a significant and rapid expansion, and seek a self-motivated and target driven professional to structure and further expand our business. The focus of the role is multi-faceted, with seeking out new clients and developing markets, organizing existing services, supporting our team internally on proposals and promotional activities, and maintaining strong client relations.
Priority will be given to individuals with an active and extensive professional network in North America that can support ESMIA in developing new business opportunities.
Key responsibilities
Strategic business development
- Design and implement a strategic business development plan aimed at acquiring new customers (especially from the private sector) and developing new markets (especially the USA);
- Find new opportunities for business development and strategic partnerships;
- Identify gaps in our offer to clients and opportunities for developing new services;
- Contribute to define pricing strategy (product based- plus hourly-based rate);
- Provide assistance in identifying and hiring professionals for strategic positions.
Client Relations
- Maintain regular communication with past clients;
- Manage long term relations with key contacts;
- Seek/receive feedback from clients and ensure overall satisfaction and quality of services;
- Inform the ESMIA teams on a regular basis about clients’ needs.
Marketing
- Initiate and supervise a marketing strategy;
- Support and guide the preparation of new content for the website;
- Prepare content for social media and other communication channels;
- Target key conferences and networking events and ensure coverage by the ESMIA team.
Proposals and grant applications
- Screen incoming requests for consulting and research project proposals;
- Monitor procurement websites and establish a decision process for submitting bids;
- Lead, coordinate and support the preparation of proposals, with other ESMIA professionals;
- Identify key win points and potential partnerships;
- Seek funding opportunities for R&D projects and support the preparation of grant applications.
Qualification
- 10+ years of relevant professional experience (consulting, business development)
- Successful business background combined with a solid technical foundation (engineering, science)
- Strong network of strategic individuals in North America that can be leveraged for business development
- Proven negotiation skills for selling higher quality products at higher prices
- Hard worker, result driven and self-motivated to grow a business
- Excellent communication skills in English and French (oral and written). Very strong English proficiency is key for this position.
