Analyst and junior modeller

About ESMIA

ESMIA Consultants has been a leader in 3E (energy-economy-environment) integrated system modelling since 2013. Our foundation is a rigorous scientific approach, guided by sophisticated mathematical models, to support decision-making related to complex energy challenges. More precisely, we:

  • Develop custom energy system models from scratch for high-profile organizations worldwide.
  • Provide trainings and support to clients wishing to develop their own energy system model.
  • Offer advisory services on challenging problems using our proprietary models, including energy transition pathways with their impacts on electricity grids, energy tariffs, labor markets and GDP.


We carry out mandates for prestigious organizations on an urban, provincial/state, national, and global scale in North America and internationally. We continuously innovate to meet the evolving needs of decision-makers. Our modelling work has high impact and used for drafting climate action plans, preparing technological roadmaps, publishing energy outlooks and identifying energy security risks.

About the position

We are looking for an analyst who will support our team of modellers, with data work (model inputs), as well as with results analysis and visualization (model outputs). She/he will also contribute to writing reports and memos for clients. This position represents the ideal opportunity to then evolve into a modelling role within our prestigious team.

Key responsibilities

  • Document and reference techno-economic parameters of existing and emerging technologies from multiple sources, including scientific publications, and update the model.
  • Develop mini models (in Excel) in order to build missing data, project the long-term evolution of certain parameters and test different assumptions, in support of the modelling team.
  • Carry out additional research: literature reviews, benchmarking, etc.
  • Analyze results produced by the modeling team: verification and comparison with similar work, contextualization, statistical analyses, etc.
  • Visualize complex data series to promote understanding and dissemination, for internal purposes and for publication in reports.
  • Write sections of reports and memos related to the analyzes carried out.
  • Respond to client questions on data and assumptions included in the model.

Qualification

  • Master’s degree in engineering, science, mathematics or other quantitative disciplines
  • 1-3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Skill in data analysis and visualization
  • Knowledge of energy systems and greenhouse gas emissions mitigation options
  • Great motivation for data collection, treatment and analysis
  • Autonomy for problem solving and self-organization of work flows
  • Excellent knowledge of French and / or English, both oral and written
